You Can Bake Cookies that have YOUR Book Cover on Them!

I am obsessed with baking cookies that have my authors’ book covers on them! They are an amazing marketing tool for in-person events. I have a printer that uses edible ink and prints on sheets of frosting paper – then, I just cut them out, and use royal icing to “glue” the image to a sugar cookie.

YOU can easily do this, too!

I’m happy to print your book cover on frosting sheets, at $10 per sheet, plus shipping.

How to Place an Order

Send an email to Diane@MotinaBooks.com, letting me know what you’d like. I’ll need a Word doc or PDF with your images formatted on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. The doc can be portrait or landscape.

You’ll need to determine the best size of your images. That’ll depend on the size of your cookies.

They can be any shape you like – but remember, it’ll be easiest to cut out images that have straight edges.

The frosting sheets are made of sugar and starch. They are not as sweet as frosting from a can, but they allow the flavor from the cookie to really come through.

This note is on the Amazon page for the frosting sheets:

  • Safe for Consumption: Icing paper is made from 100% edible ingredients, making it safe for consumption, truly flavorless, Soy free, Dairy free, Vegan, Gluten free, Nuts Free, Kosher certificate.

Edible ink is make from natural and artificial flavors.

Please note: I purchase these items from Amazon, and I don’t know all of the ingredients. I cannot be held liable for any allergic reactions.

This video will give you a quick overview on how I apply my images and decorate my cookies.

You can see that I use a squeeze bottle to apply the icing, and then I add a border of sprinkles. That’s just what I do, and you don’t need to do the same thing, of course!

For packaging, I bought a bunch of small, cellophane bags. These work very well with a small heat-sealer, which I think is a super easy way to package the cookies profesionally. You can certainly close the bag with a cute twist-tie.

Sugar Cookie Recipe

This is a delicious recipe that will ensure your cookies are as delicious as they are beautiful. There is not baking powder or baking soda. This way, the cookies will retain their shape.

Cream together:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar

Beat in 1 egg

Add:

1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon butter flavor
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups sifted flour

Mix until all ingredients are well blended. You may need to chill the dough for a while, to make it easier to work with. I’ve found that working in small batches of the dough works very well.

Roll onto a lightly floured counter to about 1/4″ thick. Cut with your cookie cutter of choice.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 11 minutes. The amount of time may depend on your oven. Let cool before decorating.

Royal Icing Recipe

3 tablespoons meringue powder

4 cups powdered sugar

7 tablespoons water

Add all the ingredients together in a bowl, and mix with an electric mixer until smooth.

The consistency is up to you – it depends on how you want to decorate your cookies. As you’ll note in the video, I use a squeeze bottle to spread the icing. The 7 tablespoons of water makes the icing fairly thin. If you want it to be thicker, use less water.

Royal icing can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer.
